What should I check when building workforce, HR and payroll software?
Operational correctness is the primary goal — a fast app that mispays employees is not production-ready.
- Role scopes (employee, supervisor, engineer, HSE, DC, office staff, admin) enforced in every server action *and* every SQL policy
- Time correctness: check-in timestamps against the local business date, overnight shifts, offline replay, location evidence and deduplication
- Pay rules: daily regular-plus-overtime limits vs rest-day/holiday overtime-only rules, with no duplicate payable hours or stale visible entitlements
- Approvals and corrections with a reason and audit trail; salary effective dates; payroll cut-off and lock; repeat-safe month generation
- Privacy: confidential HR documents and salary slips, least privilege and audit of sensitive changes
- Recovery: the ability to restore payroll records
Reejan built WAQTI, a workforce management platform for attendance, overtime and payroll with role-based access and audit logs; see the WAQTI case study.
