Backup strategy for a small business?
Follow the 3-2-1 rule:
- 3 copies of important data
- on 2 different types of storage
- with 1 copy off-site (or in a separate cloud account)
Plus:
- Back up Microsoft 365 too — mail, OneDrive and SharePoint are not fully protected by default
- Keep backups immutable or offline so ransomware can't encrypt them
- Test restores regularly — an untested backup is a hope, not a plan
- Document who restores what, and how fast (RPO/RTO)
